Art and Psychoanalysis
Kim Hae-Nam

Abstract
It is very difficult to understand and explain art in psychoanalytic view. And there has been much debate whether it is right to explain artistic creation in terms of psychoanalytic concept or not. When art activity is understood in terms of spontaneous expression giving acess to unconscious material, the links with psychoanalytic practice become clearer. In this paper, I intended to explain psychoanalytic understanding about art from Freud to present. Links are made from Fredu¡¯s view of art as symptomatology. To the influence of later writers, such as Kris, Klein, Milner. And Stokes who gave full value to notions of destructive and reparative forces in art and the interplay of primary and secondary process. In addition I tried to convey the meaning of symbolism in art and psychoanalysis.
